Alameda County, CA : Driver dies in crash under I-580 near Livermore on Friday morning, February 6, 2015

A pickup truck driver died Friday morning after crashing into a cement pillar underneath Interstate 580 outside Livermore, the California Highway Patrol said.

Witnesses told the CHP the driver was going south on Grant Line Road, about four miles east of Livermore, when the truck swerved off the road and struck the pillar, one of several at the I-580 overcross.

The truck burst into flames after the crash, killing the unidentified driver at around 11 a.m., CHP Officer Derek Reed said. The truck was fully engulfed by the time authorities arrived. The driver was the only person in the truck.

Grant Line Road, a rural stretch connecting Livermore and Tracy, remained close as of 1 p.m.
