Johnson City, NY : 4-year-old ejected from car in fatal crash on Monday, May 9, 2016

The 4-year-old victim of a fatal two-car crash in Union was identified Monday as Samrya Oakley, from Johnson City.

Broome County Sheriff's deputies say the Sunday afternoon wreck happened near the Johnson City Bus Garage on East Maine Road in the Town of Union. A Cadillac Escalade traveling southeast collided with a Toyota Camry that was traveling northwest, which carried the 4-year-old girl in a rear passenger seat, police said Monday.

"All preliminary signs indicate Samrya was properly restrained in the vehicle, in a booster seat, prior to the accident," Sheriff's Lt. Ben Harting said in a news release. "The cause of the accident is still under investigation."

The sheriff's office would not say whether any criminal charges or traffic tickets are expected to be issued as a result of the crash.

According to police, the child was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, according to police.

Harting says the Camry was operated by Jontay Card, 17, of Binghamton, who is a friend of the 4-year-old's aunt, Dashaen Pabon, 17, of Endicott, who was the car's other passenger.

Binghamton resident Thomas Steyer, 32, was behind the wheel of the Escalade, police said.

As a result of the crash, police said, Pabon was taken to UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City for a serious head injury.

Steyer was also transported to Wilson for a head injury, and was treated and released.

Deputies were assisted Sunday by state police, Choconut Center Fire Department and Union Volunteer Emergency Squad.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit reconstructed the wreck.
