Huntington County, IN : Hartford City man dies in single-vehicle crash in Huntington County on Sunday, 18th August 2019

A Hartford City man died Sunday afternoon at the scene of a single-vehicle crash in Huntington County.

About 2:45 p.m., a Wells County sheriff's deputy watched as a northbound pickup truck driven by Donald R. Thomas drove off Indiana 3 south of Shafer Road in Salamonie Township. The truck collided with a drain culvert, continued to the opposite side and eventually stopped in the grass, according to a news release from the Huntington County Coroner's Office.

Before the crash, the deputy was trying to stop Thomas, who was driving slowly, the release said.

It is unknown why the truck left the road, but authorities believe Thomas, 67, might have experienced a medical event, the release said. It noted an autopsy was pending in Fort Wayne.

Thomas was not wearing a seat belt, the release said.
