Tampa, FL : 55-year-old female pedestrian killed in an accident in Tampa on Sunday, May 3, 2015

A woman was killed Sunday morning when she was hit by a car on Florida Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Hope Wertley, 22, was driving on the southbound outside lane of Florida Avenue near Floral Drive around 8:50 a.m. when she hit Leann Garrett, 55, of Tampa, who was walking in either the outer lane or bicycle lane, authorities said. Troopers said Wertley didn't see Garrett before hitting her.

Garrett was transported to Tampa General Hospital and died as a result of her injuries, authorities said. Wertley was uninjured, troopers said.
