Saint Luice , FL : 92-year-old man was Unconcious after he lost his control and crashed into Lake on Wednesday, December 10th December 2014
Saint Lucie West, Florida
A Treasure Coast college student jumped into a lake in Port St. Lucie and rescued a 92-year-old man who had crashed his car on Wednesday
The rescue was caught on video just after 1 p.m. off of Bethany Drive.
Investigators aren't sure what caused Salvatore Mancuso, 92, to lose control of his vehicle and drive through bushes before entering the lake.
Alton Brieske was having lunch across the street.
"I ran over here immediately, took my shirt off and threw everything right here, and just dove in the water," Brieske said.
Brieske swam to the car, but Mancuso was unconscious. Brieske tried banging on the window, but Mancuso did not respond.
Brieske then noticed a crack in the passenger-side window. Water was flowing into the car.
"When that happened, that's when I was like, 'Alright, we need to get him out of here, because it's going to sink any time now,'" Brieske said. "I started screaming, 'I need a hammer! I need a hammer!' Then some guy comes running up through the bushes, and he's like, 'I got one.'"
Using the hammer, Brieske was able to gain entry to the car
