LAKE WALES, FL : 1 person airlifted after US 27 crash near Lake Wales on Tuesday, 21st May 2019

One person was airlifted with life-threatening head injuries and another was taken to Lake Wales Medical Center after a multi-vehicle crash on US 27 near Waverly Road in Lake Wales on Tuesday.

The crash occurred about 11 a.m., when a 2008 white Mercury Sedan driven by Nancy Vanroo, 88, of 56 Lake Daisy Blvd., Winter Haven, lost control and began to rotate clockwise. Her vehicle traveled northeast across the center and right lanes and left the road at the entrance of Sunrise Pediatrics at 25103 US 27, according to PCSO reports.

A 2010 gold Toyota sedan driven by Mary Bryant, 37, of 127 Woodstork Way, Frostproof, was waiting to exit the pediatric office when it was struck by Vanroo’s vehicle, causing significant damage to the front end of the Toyota.

Vanroo’s vehicle continued northeast, striking a stop sign and entering a ditch before flipping and hitting a fire hydrant and a palm tree. It came to rest about 75 feet northeast of the location it left the roadway, according to crash reports.
