Greeley, CO : Teenage boy struck and killed by a tractor-trailer in Greeley on Wednesday, January 28, 2015

A semi trailer struck and killed an 18-year old Greeley man Wednesday night at the intersection of U.S. 85 Bypass and U.S. 34.

The boy, Tyler Kauffman, 18, was walking in the road. He was pronounced dead on scene, according to a Greeley police news release.

Greeley officers responded to the intersection at 7:41 p.m. on a report of a pedestrian hit by a semi-tractor trailer rig. Officers found that a Kauffman had been struck and run over by the semi.

Information and evidence collected during the investigation indicates the he was seen immediately prior to impact with the truck, and the truck driver had no time to react to Kauffman in the roadway, the release stated. The Weld County Coroner released the teenager’s name late Thursday, and it was not immediately unknown if there would be an autopsy completed.

The off-ramp for westbound U.S. 34 to northbound U.S. 85 was closed to all traffic for about three hours while the investigation was completed, the release stated. Traffic units and detectives will continue the investigation and additional information will be released when it becomes available, the release stated.
