Six people were injured, with two trapped for a time, in a collision on Interstate 8 in the backcountry near Japatul Valley on Saturday night, authorities said.
Cal Fire crews got the two victims out of the vehicle and called for a medical helicopter after the 7:45 p.m. crash, according to Twitter posts by the agency.
The collision involving a pickup and another vehicle occurred on eastbound lanes of I-8 at state Route 79 and Japatul Valley Road, the California Highway Patrol website said.
The CHP said at least some injuries were considered major.
No additional information was immediately available.
