Jacksonville, FL : Two killed, several injured after I-10 crashes on Friday, November 25th 2016
At least two people were killed and several more were injured in a pair of crashes Friday that halted eastbound traffic on Interstate 10 in Jacksonville, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
In the first crash, reported about 2:50 p.m., a Kia Soul was heading east in the left lane of I-10 near Hammond Boulevard when it veered off the road and rolled over several times, troopers said.
Troopers said the Kia’s driver, 44-year-old Harold Payne, died at the scene and three passengers, ages 12 to 32, were taken to UF Health Jacksonville with serious injuries. The 12-year-old was the only one buckled in, according to the Highway Patrol.
Minutes later, a four-vehicle wreck was reported on eastbound I-10 near the U.S. 301 interchange in Baldwin, troopers said. According to a crash report, three vehicles were stopped in traffic in the inside lane when a fourth vehicle slammed into the rear of one of the vehicles, overturned and collided with another.
One driver, identified as 36-year-old Callie Crump, was killed in the wreck, troopers said. Two more drivers and four passengers were hospitalized with serious injuries, the report said.
