Red Bluff, CA : Redding man killed in Interstate 5 collision on Tuesday, 20th March 2018
A 21-year-old Redding man died just before 4 a.m. Tuesday in a collision on northbound Interstate 5 at Elder Creek.
The man was driving north at an unknown speed when for unknown reasons he traveled to the left, leaving the west road edge where his 2017 Jeep hit a guardrail, according to a California Highway Patrol press release issued Tuesday morning.
The vehicle re-entered northbound I-5 where it came to rest across the right lane as Roman Duscoy, 25, of North Highlands was approaching in a 2013 Freightliner truck at about 65 mph.
Duscoy saw the Jeep in front of his vehicle and braked, but was unable to stop in time to avoid the front of his truck colliding with the left side of the Jeep.
The man in the Jeep was not wearing a seat belt and sustained fatal injuries. Duscoy was not injured.
