Jersey City, NJ : Passenger killed, driver seriously injured when car crashes into tree Saturday on Route 440 in Jersey City on August 9, 2014

One teenager was killed and another injured when the car they were in struck a tree in northern New Jersey. Authorities tell that 18-year-old Josue Romero, of Union City, was killed in the crash, which occurred around 4 a.m. Saturday on Route 440 in Jersey City. Witnesses said the impact caused the car to split APART. Romero was a passenger in a car driven by 17-year-old Joshua Sanchez, also of Union City, who suffered broken bones in the accident and was being treated at a hospital. Police say the driver told them another car cut him off, and that he sped up to catch up with that vehicle. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
