Indiana State Police say one person has died and two others are hospitalized in critical condition after a fiery, head-on crash on Interstate 70 near Indianapolis.
Troopers say 35-year-old Christopher Sweet of Mooresville was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes about 11 p.m. Saturday when his car crashed into a semitrailer operated by 27-year-old Sahal Jama of Columbus Ohio, erupting in flames.
They say passers-by pulled Sweet from the wreckage but he was pronounced dead at the scene about 15 miles southwest of Indianapolis. Jama and his passenger, 37-year-old Mohamed Ali of Columbus, Ohio, were transported to Indianapolis hospitals in critical condition.
It wasn't immediately clear why Sweet was traveling in the wrong direction.
Westbound lanes were closed for several hours to clean up diesel fuel from the semitrailer.
