BREVARD COUNTY, FL : Truck driver killed in crash on I-95 in Brevard County on Wednesday, January, 31st 2018

I-95 reopened hours after a deadly crash involving a tanker truck that was hauling hydrogen peroxide.

Firefighters doused the scene with water.

The cleanup closed an 18-mile stretch, causing a traffic nightmare in southern Brevard County.

The driver of the tanker was killed.

Smoke was in the air and pavement was scorched, with metal strewn all over the scene of the crash.

The backups went on for miles.

The crash happened near Micco in the northbound lanes of I-95.

It happened before the afternoon rush. Flames overtook the tanker when it collided with a car.

The tanker's driver died and two other people were hurt.

Countless people driving on the interstate were caught in the shutdown, and many people sat in traffic for hours.

"So, we waited about an hour trying to go back south. Then, we turned around and it took us an hour to get back here," driver Kelly Smith said.

I-95 traffic was rerouted for nearly five hours after the crash.
