Westminster, MD : Dump truck crashes in the 1600 block of Manchester Road (Md. 27) on Monday, 9th March, 2020
A dump truck crashed, overturned and caught fire in the 1600 block of Manchester Road (Md. 27), sending the 31-year-old driver to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries Monday morning, according to Maryland State Police.
The dump truck veered off the right side of the road and went down an embankment between Manchester and Westminster for unknown reasons, but before the crash, a couple people called 911 earlier that day reporting “erratic driving” by the vehicle, according to Sgt. Jeffery Eyler. Police were called at approximately 8:34 a.m. to the scene, he said.
The driver, Essex resident Brandon Hamilton, faces seven charges including driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance, reckless driving, negligent driving, and failing to obey a traffic control device, Eyler later wrote in an email.
Hamilton got out of the vehicle before police arrived and he was taken to Sinai Hospital, Eyler said. The road was closed temporarily while police and firefighters from Westminster and Manchester responded.
