Stanislaus County, CA : Driver killed in south Modesto crash on Monday afternoon, April 25, 2016
Authorities on Tuesday identified the driver killed in a crash on Crows Landing Road Monday afternoon as a 21-year-old Modesto man.
Kristian Valdovinos was driving a Honda with his friend Jeremy Medina, 22, as a passenger, when the car was struck by a Jeep as he pulled out of a south Modesto veterinary clinic.
Emergency crews were called to Crows Landing Road and Algen Avenue around 5:30 p.m. for a report that a sport-utility vehicle had struck a red Honda sedan that was exiting the Crows Landing Road Veterinary Clinic.
When they arrived, they found Valdovinos pinned in the Honda. He was declared dead at the scene.
Medina suffered major injuries and was listed in critical but stable condition at a local hospital on Tuesday.
The driver of the Jeep, 21-year-old Leonires Alcauterperez of Patterson, suffered minor injuries.
Witnesses said the Jeep was traveling recklessly south on Crows Landing Road before smashing into the Honda. Both vehicles came to rest about 75 feet from the point of impact. But the cause remains under investigation.
Modesto police traffic Sgt. Aaron Tait said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor and the speed at which the Jeep was traveling is under investigation.
A dog that had just been seen at the veterinary clinic was taken back inside and treated.
