Springfield, MO : Two people injured after church van crashed on interstate 44 on Saturday February 20 2016

A church van crashed on interstate 44 Sunday afternoon, sending two people to the hospital, and injuring others.
The accident happened after a tire blew out on the van as it was traveling 70 miles an hour near mile marker 84 just east of Springfield. The van from the Bethalto Church of God was carrying a group of young people home to Illinois when it swerved and rolled over on the right side of the road.
The van was carrying 11 people, most of them teenagers. Two people were thrown through an open window. Police say the van rolled on top of at least one of those people. They were taken to the hospital. Both are expected to be OK.
Church member Tony Schult was driving in the van at the time.
"We were going along with traffic and all the sudden something popped on the van. And we started to fishtail and move across traffic. We went right in front of a semi and that's why he went off the road and when we hit the embankment we flipped over."
The group of teens were attending Winterfest, a youth prayer retreat in Branson. Several other church vans also attending the conference in Branson, stopped to help the group here today.
Traffic was backed up at least 2 miles on interstate 44 going east bound, but The wreck is cleared and cars are moving along.
