Miami, FL : Wrong-way crash kills a man and shuts down stretch of Tamiami Trail on Southwest Eighth Street and 157th Avenue on Monday, 3rd December 2018
One man is dead after a wrong-way driver smashed into his car early Monday on Southwest Eighth Street and 157th Avenue, police say.
The westbound lanes of the intersection are shut down and all drivers are being rerouted. The eastbound lanes are open, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at about 5 a.m. According to FHP spokesman Alejandro Camacho, a silver pickup truck was traveling east in the westbound lanes of Tamiami Trail and hit a silver Hyundai head-on at Southwest 157th Avenue.
FHP identified the driver of the truck as 35-year-old Eliezer Pedro, who survived the crash and was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center, according to Miami Herald news partner CBS4. The driver of the Hyundai, 45-year-old Felix Restrepo, died on the scene, the station reported.
