Berkeley, CA : Driver sought in hit-and run crash on I-80 on Wednesday, March 18, 2015
A hit-and-run driver was being sought after running away from a multicar crash on Interstate 80 that injured several people, including three children, authorities said.
The crash was reported about 1:20 p.m. on westbound Interstate 80 east of the University Avenue off-ramp, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Sean Wilkenfeld.
As many as four cars were involved in the crash, including one car that overturned, Berkeley Fire Department Deputy Chief Avery Webb said. Six people were evaluated for injuries by responding Berkeley and Alameda County firefighters, Webb said. Five people, including three children, were taken by ambulance to a hospital. No one was severely injured.
One male driver ran from the crash, and was being sought by the CHP, Wilkenfeld said.
Authorities briefly shut down the freeway to allow emergency vehicles to get on the freeway, but as of 2 p.m. all but one lane of westbound I-80 was open.
