Hickory, NC : 17-year-old dies in early-morning crash in Hickory area; driver also injured on Wednesday, 30th January 2019

An early morning crash on Kool Park Road claimed the life of Martin Santillan, 17, of Hickory.

Santillan was a passenger in the car driven by Luis Javier Chavez II, 19, of Hickory. Chavez received serious injuries in the crash but they are not believed to be life-threatening. Chavez was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and later transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, according to a release from Master Trooper Jeffrey Swagger of the N.C. Highway Patrol.

No charges have been filed in the crash that left a 2006 Chevrolet car upside down in Snow Creek off Kool Park Road.
