Southfield, MI : Man killed in motorcycle crash on I-696 near Evergreen Road in Southfield on Sunday, September 28, 2014
A 27-year-old Sterling Heights man died when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck along I-696 in Southfield, police said.
Michigan State Police identified the deceased as Bassam Issa.
According to Michigan State Police, the incident occurred about 7:30 p.m. Sunday along eastbound I-696 near Evergreen Road.
Police said a trooper attempted to stop the operator of a 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle for a traffic violation the trooper observed near I-696 and Lahser.
But police said the motorcyclist failed to stop and weaved back and forth on the freeway. The motorcycle then struck a 2005 Chevy Silverado in the right lane.
The motorcycle rider was taken by the Southfield Fire Department to a local hospital, but he died from his injuries, police said. The driver of the pick-up truck was not injured.
Police said the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet and did have a motorcycle endorsement.
