Billings, MT : Worker killed in truck accident at mine near Decker Monday on June 23, 2014
A worker at a southeastern Montana coal mine has been killed during an accident involving a truck used to haul coal.
Wyoming-based Cloud Peak Energy says that there were no other injuries in the accident at its Spring Creek Mine strip mine near Decker.
Mine Safety and Health Administration spokeswoman Amy Louviere said Tuesday that the 230-ton truck crashed through a berm at about 7:30 p.m. Monday, killing the driver.
Cloud Peak says the victim's family has been notified, but the driver's name was not immediately released.
Federal mine safety officials were on the scene. No other details were immediately available.
Spring Creek employs about 280 people and produced more than 17 million tons of coal in 2013.
The last reported fatality at the mine was in 2006.
