An 88-year-old woman died and two other people were injured after a two-vehicle accident that happened Thursday in Richland County.Cody Sesco, 25, of Mansfield, was driving a 2005 black GMC Sierra south on U.S. 42 at 4:55 p.m. when he failed to stop for the traffic light at the Stewart Road intersection and collided with a northbound 2005 tan Lexus ES330, said troopers with the Mansfield post of the state Highway Patrol. The impact forced the GMC Sierra off the roadway and into the ditch.
The driver of the Lexus was 61-year-old Jeffery Humrichouser of Polk. He was transported to Mansfield Ohio Health with non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.
His passenger, 88-year-old Mary Humrichouser of Polk, was transported to Mansfield Ohio Health and later flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, where she died as a result of her injuries, troopers said.
Both occupants in the Lexus were wearing their seatbelts, troopers said.
Sesco, who had not been wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Mansfield Ohio Health with non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.
Madison Township and Mifflin Township Fire and EMS personnel also responded to the scene. One lane of U.S. 42 and one lane of Stewart Road were closed during the wreckage clean-up and crash investigation, but motorists were able to use the other lanes.
It is unknown whether alcohol and/or drug usage were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation, troopers said.
