A Platte man suffered serious injuries after his vehicle collided with a semi truck Thursday morning in Geddes.

At about 11 a.m., John Pranger, 77, was traveling west on 285th Street in a 2001 GMC Yukon, and was stopped at the intersection of Highway 50, according to Tony Mangan, public information officer for the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

Pranger then continued through the intersection, failing to yield to oncoming traffic, and his vehicle was struck by a 2000 freightliner, driven by Mark Nelson, 35, of Artesian, traveling south on Highway 50.

Speeds of the vehicles were not available, as the investigation is ongoing.

Nelson was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured, while Pranger, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries. Pranger was transported by ambulance to the hospital in Platte.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Charles Mix County Sheriff's Office also responded.
