Police say an 85-year-old woman has died and two young children are hospitalized with serious injuries after a head-on crash in New York's Hudson Valley.
State police say Harriet Simpkins of Kinderhook was traveling south on state Route 9 in the Columbia County town of Stuyvesant around 3 p.m. Sunday when she veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a vehicle driven by 28-year-old Rahmal Spann of Hudson.
Simpkins was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Spann and his three passengers were all transported to Albany Medical Center.
A 9-year-old boy suffered severe arm and leg injuries while a 5-year-old boy is in critical condition with severe head injuries. Spann and a 14-year-old boy suffered only minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
