WILDWOOD, FL : Fatal crash in Wildwood on Tuesday, August 22, 2017
The Florida Highway Patrol has identified an Ocalan as one of two men who fled the scene after a 2007 BMW that was speeding away from police slammed into a woman’s SUV and killed her on Tuesday on State Road 44.
Authorities found and detained Nepoleon Brown, 27, of Ocala, after the crash. When officers found an AK-47 rifle in the trunk of the BMW, he was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and also resisting an officer. He was booked late Tuesday at the Sumter County Jail, with bail set at $22,000.
Laura Lee Price, 55, of Inverness, died at the scene in the 1:32 p.m. accident.
Police are looking for the other man who was in the BMW with Brown. He is described as a black man with dreadlocks or braided hair, and wearing black/red shorts and a white T-shirt.
Investigators are still trying to figure out who was driving the car, which was registered to Ashley Postell of Webster.
According to the FHP, Wildwood police were trying to stop the BMW for a traffic violation when the car fled south on County Road 219, then ran a stop sign and entered the westbound lanes of SR 44.
The car struck Price’s 2002 Honda SUV, which overturned. The BMW rotated and sideswiped a 2016 pickup truck driven by Michael L. Simon, 52, of Grand Island. The car then collided with a 2014 Mack tractor-trailer driven by Eugene Randolph Jr., 53, of Jacksonville, and became lodged beneath the trailer.
