London, KY : Woman seriously injured in two-vehicle crash on Friday, August 4, 2017

A Laurel County woman was flown to a Lexington hospital on Friday evening after a serious two-vehicle crash.

The accident took place at the intersection of Ky. 1189 and Ky. 830, five miles southeast of London, when a gray Nissan driven by 63-year-old Rhonda Gail Marcum traveling eastbound on Ky. 1189 turned left from Ky. 830 and struck a southbound white Nissan driven by 26-year-old Christopher Gilbert.

The impact caused Marcum to be trapped inside the vehicle, requiring her to be removed by mechanical means by members of the London-Laurel County Rescue Squad.

Marcum was transported to Saint Joseph London by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, then flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.

According to the press release from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, Gilbert received apparent non-life threatening injuries. It was not stated whether he sought medical attention following the crash.

The accident is being investigated by Sheriff’s Deputy Keith Dinsmore. He was assisted at the scene by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, London-Laurel Rescue Squad, Laurel County Volunteer Fire Department and Air Methods helicopter.
