BAR HARBOR, ME : Maine pedestrian killed after being hit by truck on Tuesday, September 12, 2017
A Maine woman was killed when she was hit by a truck Tuesday morning in Bar Harbor, according to a press release from police.
It happened shortly before noon on State Route 3 in the Hulls Cove, according to the press release.
Justin Shell, 36, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, was driving a pickup truck when he drifted off the road, hit a parked car, and then hit Connie Birkenmeier of Bar Harbor, who was standing in the parking lot of the Chartroom Restaurant.
The truck continued through the parking lot, hitting several more cars before crashing into the restaurant.
Birkenmeier, 76, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck was towed due to damage, and Shell was taken to the hospital for not life threatening injuries. After being released from the hospital, he was arrested and taken to the Hancock County Jail. He has been charged with Manslaughter and Aggravated Driving.
The crash is under investigation.
