painesville township, OH : Mentor man dies in vehicle crash just after 7 a.m. Sunday on June 22nd 2014.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office and the Painesville Fire Department were called to a one-vehicle crash just after 7 a.m. Sunday.
They arrived at the area of 1251 Riverside Drive after a passerby called and said a vehicle struck a tree.
EMS began treating the victim and took him to TriPointe Medical Center in Concord Township where he died from his injuries.
It was later found that the operator had not survived the injuries he sustained in the crash.
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as Keith A. Hemphill, 38, of Mentor.
The Sheriff's Office says the preliminary investigation reveals that Hemphill was driving a 2005 Dodge Caravan eastbound on S.R. 84 (Riverside Dr). The posted speed limit on this stretch of Riverside Drive is 40 mph.
Upon reaching the area of 1251 Riverside Drive, his vehicle began to drift to the left, and crossed through the westbound lane of Riverside Drive.
Hemphill's vehicle then drove off the north side of the roadway at 1251 Riverside Dr, striking a mailbox at the corner of this driveway. The vehicle continued on for another 60 feet and then struck a tree in the same front yard.
The Sheriff's Office says that, at this point, it does not appear as though excessive speed, or alcohol were contributors to the cause of this crash.
