Roanoke Rapids, NC : RR man dies in wreck on Thursday September 15 2016

A Roanoke Rapids man died following a vehicular wreck early Thursday morning on Sam Powell Dairy Road.
The deceased is Gregory Ricks, 31, according to an official with the State Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred about 1:24 a.m. The official said Ricks was traveling east on Sam Powell Dairy Road, the road where he lives, when he crossed the center line and ran off the road to the left.
Rick’s vehicle traveled down an embankment and collided with several small trees. The vehicle continued traveling and eventually collided with a large tree and came to an uncontrolled rest.
The passenger was partly ejected from the vehicle, the highway patrol official noted, and both were transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Ricks was pronounced dead at the hospital, and the passenger was in critical condition as of this morning.
The cause for why Ricks crossed the center line is still under investigation.
