Puyallup, WA : 1 killed, 2 critical after I-5 police chase ends in crash midnight wednesday on June 25, 2014
An overnight police chase on Interstate 5 ended with a rollover crash that left one person dead and two others critically injured, the Washington State Patrol said.
The drama began just after midnight Wednesday when Puyallup Tribal Police tried to pull over a driver they believed was drunk.
The driver refused to stop and decided to make a run for it instead, taking off north on I-5 as tribal police followed in pursuit.
The suspected drunk driver pulled off at the Port of Tacoma Road off-ramp then lost control of the car and crashed. The vehicle rolled over at least twice.
The State Patrol says the driver, a 30-year-old Goldendale man, died in the rollover crash. A man and woman in their 20s riding in the car were injured and taken to Tacoma General Hospital.
"One was ejected and is confirmed deceased," said State Trooper Brooke Bova. "Two have been transported to the hospital - they are critical. We don't know the extent of their injuries at this time."
The Port of Tacoma Road exit ramp was closed for three hours after the crash but has now reopened.
