Cleveland, OH : State Highway Patrol trooper killed in crash on Interstate 90 in Cleveland on Thursday, September 15, 2016
A State Highway Patrol trooper died Thursday after being hit by a car on Interstate 90 in Cleveland.
Trooper Kenneth Velez, 48, was outside his patrol car and conducting traffic enforcement when the car hit him, the Highway Patrol said in a statement.
"This is a tragedy for the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Department of Public Safety," said Colonel Paul Pride, Ohio State Highway Patrol Superintendent. "Our prayers go out to the Velez family during this difficult time."
The crash happened at 12:52 p.m. in the westbound lanes near the McKinley Avenue exit. The crash closed the highway between Cleveland's West Side and Rocky River.
