SALT LAKE CITY, UT : Driver killed when car crashes into column, vehicle becomes 'engulfed' in flames near airport on Saturday, 8th June 2024

A car crashed into a bridge support column on I-80 and caught fire, killing its driver early Saturday, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

The vehicle left the roadway on the I-80 westbound ramp headed toward the Salt Lake City International Airport about 3:18 a.m. and struck a column supporting the overpass crossing above, UHP Cpl. Mike Alexander said.

State troopers and fire fighters arrived on scene to find the vehicle actively burning, according to a press release.
