Jefferson City, MO : Two St. Louis-area women die in two-vehicle crash near Rolla on Friday, 16th September 2016

Two women from the St. Louis area were killed and two other St. Louis residents were seriously injured in a two-car crash near Rolla on Friday.

Marquia R. Lewis, 23, of Florissant, and Valencia E. McKinney, 22, of St. Louis, were pronounced dead at the scene. Injured were Mark J. Ryan, 58, and Barbara A. Ryan, 57, both of St. Louis.

The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating the crash on U.S. Highway 63 north of the southern junction of Missouri Highway 28.

A 2006 Saturn Ion occupied by Lewis and McKinney was southbound on U.S. 63 when the driver lost control of the vehicle and traveled across the center line and was struck by a 2014 Ford Fusion driven by Mark Ryan, the patrol said. Investigators have not determined who was driving the Saturn.

The Saturn ended up on the right side of the road and caught fire.

The Ryans were taken to Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, where they were in serious condition.

McKinney was a senior majoring in engineering management at Missouri University of Science and Technology, the school said in a statement. Lewis had graduated inMay with a degree in computer science from the school.
