SACRED HEART, MN : Man trapped in car in Renville County crash on Sunday, 20th May 2018
A Marshall man was trapped in am upside-down vehicle for several hours before being extricated Sunday morning by rescue personnel.
According to the Renville County Sheriff's Office, authorities were notified at 7:27 a.m. Sunday that a vehicle was on its roof in the ditch near the railroad crossing on County Road 9 in Sacred Heart.
Responders on scene located a 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo on its roof, with Ian Mariner, 24, trapped inside.
Mariner told law enforcement that he was driving the vehicle north on County Road 9 when a tire on the vehicle blew out causing him to lose control of the vehicle and crash into the rail at a high rate of speed and the vehicle then rolled in the ditch.
Mariner was flown to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale with what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Through the initial investigation deputies learned that Mariner had likely crashed around 4:30 a.m. and was trapped in the vehicle for several hours before someone who was driving past located him.
It is also believed that Mariner failed to stop for a stop sign at County Road 9 and US Highway 212, according to a press release from the sheriff's office.
Mariner was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office.
The Sacred Heart Medical Response Unit, Sacred Heart Fire and Rescue, the Renville Ambulance and North Memorial Air Care assisted at the scene.
