BUCKEYE, AZ : 18-year-old killed in crash with cement truck in Buckeye on Sunday, 23rd June 2024

A Valley mother is sounding the alarm after her 18-year-old son died in a head-on crash with a cement truck in Buckeye last week.

His family says he was set to begin his classes at the Universal Technical Institute to become an Automotive Mechanic after graduating from Estrella Foothills High School, where he played basketball and football and was in the band.

“Monte was very inspirational, very inspirational. He was an individual that loved giving people soul,” said Darvella Johnson, Monte Watson-Robertson’s mom.

She says he was less than three miles away from home when he crashed into a cement truck Friday morning near Beloat Road and Jackrabbit Trail.

Instead of starting classes on Monday, his family is planning his funeral. “I wish that on no one. To lose something that you brought into this world is a big emptiness,” she said tearfully.

Johnson says her son loved cars from a young age and dreamed about working on cars.

“I’m very proud of my son, very proud of his accomplishments because he had goals and he had accomplished like 25 percent of them. Only one he didn’t get a chance to reach was college, marriage at 25 and four kids,” she said.
