BROOKINGS, SD : Two injured in crash on Tuesday, March 7th 2017
Two people were transported to the hospital after a two-vehicle accident Tuesday, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident was reported at 5:43 a.m. Tuesday and happened on an icy Interstate 29 near milepost 148, said Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring.
Amanda Joelle Besemer, 22, of Brookings, was driving a 2007 Ford Focus southbound on the interstate and hit an icy patch in the roadway.
“The driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a metal cable guardrail and cement bridge rail and came to rest across a lane of traffic,” Sebring said.
Wilfredo Aguilar-Cardona, 38, of Watertown, was driving a 1998 Toyota 4 Runner southbound and “due to the icy road conditions could not switch lanes and struck the rear passenger side of vehicle 1,” Sebring said.
“Both drivers were transported to the Brookings Hospital by the Estelline Ambulance with unknown injuries,” Sebring said.
Both vehicles were deemed total losses.
The Estelline Fire Department also responded to the scene.
The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
