Fort Lauderdale, FL : A blown tire led to a crash on Interstate 595 on Tuesday, August 8, 2017

A blown tire led to a crash on Interstate 595 early Tuesday that killed a Fort Lauderdale man, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash near the exit to Hiatus Road happened shortly before 6:15 a.m.

According to FHP Sgt. Mark Wysocky, Jairo Diaz Mendez, 36, was driving a 1998 Mazda pickup westbound when the tread separated on one of the rear tires and the truck went out of control.

The pickup veered into the highway’s concrete barrier wall and overturned.

Mendez died at the scene of the crash, Wysocky said. His two passengers, a woman, 26 and a man, 25, both also from Fort Lauderdale, had minor injuries.

Because of the crash, two right lanes of I-595 and a portion of the exit ramp to Hiatus Road remained blocked throughout the morning commute.
