Two people died Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Route 29.

Officials say a dump truck collided with a Ford Crown Victoria in the southbound lane around 12:54 p.m. The crash caused both vehicles and a utility pole to catch on fire.

The driver of the dump truck, identified as James Bilton, 59, of Edgewater Park, did not suffer serious injuries.

However, the driver and passenger of the car were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names have not been released pending positive identification by a medical examiner and family notification.

Police say the investigation found that Bilton was traveling northbound while the other car was traveling southbound. The vehicles collided in the southbound lane, causing them to hit a stone wall along the southbound shoulder of the roadway.

No other vehicles were involved.
