Authorities today identified a man killed Wednesday night in a single vehicle crash on Rockford's east side.

Robert Brennan, 75, of Rockford, was pronounced dead at the scene after his vehicle left the roadway around 6 p.m. near the 700 block of Featherstone Road and traveled north through an open field, according to a Rockford Police Department news release.

The car then entered the parking lot of Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, 833 Featherstone Road, before hitting the building's cement steps and a wall.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy performed today showed the preliminary cause of death to be blunt trauma to the chest, Winnebago County Chief Deputy Coroner William Hintz said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Rockford Police Department.
