A couch in the road caused an accident Saturday morning involving two charter buses.

The accident happened around 9 a.m. on Interstate 20 eastbound near Elgin, the South Carolina Highway Patrol reported.

Troopers said the driver of a charter bus carrying 47 people saw a couch in the road and swerved to miss it when a second bus carrying 56 people hit the first bus in the rear.

A total of 8 people were treated for minor injuries, troopers said.

Pam Talbott, a nursing supervisor at KershawHealth said 6 people were treated for minor injuries at the hospital and all the patients were in their late teens to early 20s.
