NEW ORLEANS, LA : Fatal crash in Algiers that involved an off-duty officer on Sunday, 20th September, 2020

The New Orleans Police Department released video related to the fatal crash in Algiers that involved an off-duty officer in August.
The video showed the bicyclist ran a red light before Officer Derrick Williams struck him. The officer is still on leave because of his mental state, according to NOPD Chief Shaun Ferguson.
He said Williams is upset about what happened even though it does not appear to be his fault.
As part of the NOPD’s policy, the officer was administered a drug and alcohol test that showed no signs of impairment, Ferguson said.
According to police, the officer was traveling eastbound on General DeGaulle Drive in his marked police unit when a bicyclist riding northbound on Westbend Parkway rode into the officer’s lane. The bicyclist was struck by the vehicle and later died.
