Forty-five-year-old Frank Jones of Lafayette died Friday night when he lost control of his car and it struck a tree in the 7600 block of Indiana 25 South, according to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office and Tippecanoe County Coroner Donna Avolt.

Paramedics took Jones' passenger — Christopher Faulkner, 35, of Lafayette — to Franciscan Health East for treatment of serious injuries he suffered in the crash, Tippecanoe County sheriff's Capt. Rob Hainje said. Faulkner remained in stable condition on Monday.

Jones was driving north on Indiana 25 and entered a right-hand curve about 2½ miles south of West Point, Hainje said.

Jones' car went left of center, and he lost control of the vehicle, Hainje said. It traveled off the left side of the road and struck a tree shortly before 10:20 p.m. Friday, Hainje said.

Jones died at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.
