Ocala,FL: Pedestrian killed in crash was 38-year-old Ocala woman on October, Monday 9th 2017

A woman was hit and killed by a car east of Ocala Monday night.

Late Tuesday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol identified the woman as Jennifer Doane, 38, of Ocala.

Troopers said Doane was at a friend’s home, left there and went to another friend’s home. She had left there and was walking home when she was hit. Authorities were told that Doane, a mother, was known to walk everywhere she went.

On Monday night, as FHP troopers investigated the crash — on Northeast Seventh Street near 70th Avenue — a second vehicle traveled into the scene and almost hit two people. The driver of that pickup truck, a 36-year-old man, was arrested on driving under the influence.

Before the fatal accident, a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, driven by 34-year-old Ricky Hopkins Jr., was traveling east on Northeast Seventh Street, troopers said. Doane was standing in the eastbound lane of the two-lane street.

Hopkins swerved to avoid hitting her, but troopers said she walked into the path of the car.

After hitting her, Hopkins drove a few yards away, stopped, got out, tried to stop other traffic and called 911. Hopkins — who had two girls, ages 3 and 12, in the car — was shaken up by the accident. He told troopers he was on his way home.

The FHP was notified about the crash at 9:19 p.m.
