CAIRO, IL : 25-year-old dead after semi-truck vs pedestrian crash on I-57 on Monday, 19th February 2024

One person is dead after a crash involving a pedestrian and a semi-truck near Cairo.

Illinois State Police said the incident happened at 8:47 p.m. on February 19, when a semi-truck was going north on I-57 when it struck a pedestrian near the 1 mile marker.

ISP Troop 10 units responded to the incident and I-57 NB was shut down for the next several hours. The roadway was reopened at 12:48 a.m. on Tuesday.

The pedestrian is a 25-year-old male who died in the crash. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured, according to ISP.

The crash is still under investigation.
