Milwaukee, WI : A West Allis police officer was injured in a hit-and-run crash on Saturday, August 5, 2017
A West Allis police officer was injured in a hit-and-run crash with a pick up truck around 9 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of 91st and National Avenue.
Police said the officer was traveling east on National Avenue when the patrol car collided with the truck that was heading south on 91st Street, causing the truck to roll onto its roof and onto the sidewalk, injuring a pedestrian.
The driver of the truck fled the scene on foot, according to police. West Allis police officers found the driver, who had minor injuries, a few blocks away and arrested him or her on suspicion of operating while intoxicated and hit and run. A passenger was also injured.
Police said the officer involved in the crash suffered minor injuries.
"The police squad was on routine patrol at the time of the accident," said Deputy Chief Christopher Botsch in a statement. "The police squad was not responding to an emergency call for service at the time of the crash and was not traveling with its lights and/or siren operating."
The Wisconsin State Patrol is handling the investigation.
