Columbus, OH : A Painesville man died after a single vehicle crash on Sunday, September 24th 2017
A Painesville man died after a single vehicle crash on the Route 2 east exit ramp to Route 44 south Sept. 24.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the department responded to the scene of the crash at 4:02 p.m.
As deputies arrived, they saw a Tri-County Ambulance Service Rescue Squad on the scene with two paramedics treating injured victims of the crash. The Painesville Township Fire Department was also at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office said an accident investigation revealed that a gray 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee was being driven by 59-year-old Robert McGann of Huron (who was residing in Painesville) and was traveling from Route 2 toward Route 44. As the vehicle exited Route 2 east and traveled on the on/off ramp, the SUV traveled off the left side of the ramp briefly before re-entering the ramp and crossing the right shoulder of the ramp.
The SUV then overturned completely before coming to a rest upright, facing north across the ramp.
The lone passenger, Michael P. Corrigan, 57, of Painesville, was ejected from the vehicle as it overturned and was thrown about 30 to 35 feet from the vehicle’s location of final rest.
Both men involved in the crash were transported to TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township.
McGann was subsequently taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. The Sheriff’s Office said Corrigan was pronounced dead at TriPoint.
The crash remains under investigation, but alcohol is believed to be a factor, the Sheriff’s Office stated.
