Frackville, PA : Truck driver dies in I-81 crash in Schuylkill County early Thursday morning, August 18, 2016
A tractor-trailer driver died in one of three crashes in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 early this morning.
The accidents occurred around 5 a.m. in the area of mile marker 126, about two miles north of the Frackville exit, according to state police at Frackville.
The driver of one of several tractor-trailers involved was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:15 a.m. by Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner David Truskowsky, Mahanoy City.
Truskowsky said the name of the victim is not being released pending notification of family members.
Troopers said several other people were hurt in the crash but their injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
The southbound lanes of Interstate 81 are closed between the Mahanoy City and Frackville exits with all traffic being diverted onto the Frackville-Morea Highway.
