Rural Hall, North Carolina
Authorities say at least two people were killed and eight injured in a wreck in a construction zone on U.S. 52 in Forsyth County.
Lt. Jeff Gordon of the state Highway Patrol says a 10-year-old boy from Illinois was killed in the wreck, which occurred Thursday when a tractor-trailer hit five cars from behind. Gordon says the boy was one of five people in a van that the tractor-trailer struck first.
A person in another vehicle also was killed. Eight people were taken to a hospital.
Gordon says the tractor-trailer driver wasn't injured. He says the wreck occurred in an area where traffic was being merged into one lane.
The northbound lanes of U.S. 52 near the wreck are likely to remain closed until early Friday morning.
