Driver Killed in Truck Crash in Pardeesville Pennsylvania
Pardeesville, Pennsylvania
A tractor trailer went over the embankment off I-84 in West Hartford Friday morning.
The truck, traveling eastbound, slammed into a pole off the highway near exit 40 around 10:55 a.m. according to State Police. The truck collided with a wrecker hauling a trailer before crashing through the guardrail, police said.
The truck driver, who was from the Philadephia area, was killed. Police identified the driver as John Dilliplane. He was not wearing a seatbelt, state police said.
The driver of the other truck suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Around 11p.m., 12 hours after the crash, crews finally removed a portion of the truck from the embankment. They were able to break the cab portion of the tractor-trailer away from the rest of the truck. 40,000 pounds of Juicy Juice had to be removed from the scene before crews could take away the trailer portion of the truck.
A section of New Britain Avenue had to be blocked off because of the cleanup.
The accident closed I-84 East, the Route 4 entrance to I-84 and the Route 9 ramp to I-84 East for hours.
All of those roads reopened around 3 p.m. according to State Police. The right-hand lane on I-84 eastbound, and the exit 40 off-ramp westbound remained closed as crews worked to remove the truck.
