SANFORD, FL : Sanford police investigate fatal crash on US 17-92 Saturday 27th August 2016

One person is dead and another in critical condition after a highway accident Saturday morning.
U.S. Highway 17-92 was closed for hours because of the fatal crash. Sanford police said one person died and another was seriously injured in the two-car accident near 25th Street. The crash occurred at about 4 a.m. Saturday.
A Sanford police spokeswoman issued a statement saying, "It appears right now that excessive speed and opposite lane of travel were contributing factors."
The crash is being investigated. Names of the people involved have not been released.
